2018 Local Election Results; Wine for Maynardville and New 3rd District Commissioner
The results rolled in just after the polls closed on election night, the verdict, wine for Maynardville.
It was a touchy subject amongst Union County citizens in the weeks before the election, but the Maynardville City voters spoke election night. It appeared evident, the majority of voters were ready to see wine in their local grocery store.
The passing of the wine could potentially open the door for increased tax revenue for the City of Maynardville and the opportunity for more businesses.
The ability to further sales could be inviting to businesses who are looking to expand into the community. In return, this could create jobs for Union Countians.
The WIGS Referendum passed with 300 votes ‘for’ and 162 ‘against’.
I contacted the City of Maynardville after the election and they foresee wine being sold in Food City by the first of the year, that depending upon when the store applies for their licensing through the State of Tennessee.
In the 3rd District of Union County, voters had a special election for commissioner. Earl Cox lead the ticket with 177 votes. Cox was opposed by 5 other candidates: Debria Barton (79), Calvin Chesney (133), Jeffrey Munsey (38), Von Richardson (165), and Chester Sturgeon (143). Cox will take the seat of the Late 3rd District Commissioner J.M. Bailey. Congratulations, Mr. Cox!
