Child Chased by Masked Man When Getting Off the Bus
Maynardville Police Officers and Union County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an incident on Thursday, January 24th where a child was chased by a masked man after getting off the bus that evening.
According to an arrest warrant obtained from the Maynardville Police Department, a child, who is under 13 years of age, exited the bus along a route of Academy Street in Maynardville. Upon exiting, the child noticed a man walking along the sidewalk.
The child told officers that the man’s face was completely covered except for his eyes, and the child noted that he was staring. The child was frightened and started running toward the porch of their home.
After the child reached the porch, they began to beat on the door and even told officers that they tried to shut themselves between the screen door and interior door in hopes of protection.
Once an adult came to the door, the man was at the mailbox of the home. He continued to stare from the mailbox while the parent retrieved a baseball bat from the home. The parent went to the road where the man was, but the man then ran off.
Officers with Maynardville Police Department identified the man as 22-year-old Tyler Sweitzer of Maynardville. Sweitzer was taken into custody the next day. He is currently incarcerated in the Union County Jail on a charge of assault and is being held on a $1,000 bond.
