5th Annual ART ON MAIN
Admission is FREE. Mark your calendar for Saturday, June 4th, 9:00 am until 4:00 pm in Historic Downtown Maynardville. The Union County Art Council will be hosting 5th Annual “Art on Main” Festival and promises a great lineup of Entertainment and Fascinating Demonstrators. We will be hosting the 2015 Thumbpicker of the year Parker Hastings himself. He is from Central Kentucky. There will be lots of local talent such as Union County’s Valley Boys, Virginia Faith, Kyle Campbell and Greg Horne from Knoxville, the Knox County Jug Stompers, Eli Fox, Knoxville Banjo Cotillion, Union County’s Swamp Ghost and much more. James Perry will have Chet Atkins memorabelia on display. We will have several demonstrators such as Anne Freels demonstrating her Corn Shuck Dolls, Amber Crouse demonstrating her copper & silver jewelry as a metal smith and Matt Salley will be demonstrating his art as a Glass Blower. Woodworker David West will also be among the demonstrators. Brian Whitson will be painting. There will be face painting and balloon twisting for the kids and much more.Stewart Oakes of Oakes Day Lily Farm in Corryton would like for Union County to be the Lilly Capitol of the United States. He is donating Lillies to be given to anyone visiting the festival (one per person). The Arts Council would like to thank Oakes Day Lillies for their generous donation. Be sure to come see how local florist Bob Sharp decorates our back porch stage. It was a site to see last year. The Donna Jones Student Art Exhibit will be in the Doc Carr Office, be sure to see our local upcoming talent.Luttrell Volunteer Fire Department will have train rides starting at 10:00. Be sure to come for lunch as we have several food vendors serving everything from Fried Bologna to Greek Sandwiches. The Lions Club will be serving Italian Ice and what festival wouldn’t occur in Union County with the Mason’s Scottish Rite making Apple Butter. Let’s support these vendors who raise funds to help our community. There will be lots of arts and craft vendors and woodworkers. Brain White will be selling Japanese Maples along with his Union County Hostas.Main Street will be closed Friday June 3rd starting at 5:00 at Mulberry from Court Street until Saturday after the festival.This festival is made possible from the Tennessee Art’s Commission, East Tennessee Foundation and private donors.
