The Memorial Wall for our Veteran’s located behind the high school is in poor condition and need of repair. Paint is peeling off enough to cause moisture which creates mold. A drainage system is need on the back of the wall so all plaques, signs and flags need to come off before stucco can be applied. The quote to repair the wall is $10,116.00 and should take care of the wall with little maintenance for 20 to 30 years. This quote does not include drainage system or removal of items on the wall. We will be having a fund raiser on June 15th from 4 to? p.m. @ Wilson Park which will include bike & car shows $5 entry fee; music (provided by several bands), auction, prizes and much more. At 6:30 p.m. there will be a dedication to local Veterans. Our wall has over 340 names of our soldiers that fought and died for our country, so let’s show respect and honor to them. Concessions brought to the event by Small Town Mkt. & Deli from Luttrell. If you would like to make a donation to this worthy cause make checks to American Legion Veteran Association Post 212 or VFW Post 8682. All proceeds go to them. PECANS ARE HERE ONCE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! The Union County Lions Club will be selling pecans beginning on November 1, 2017 at the following locations: Commercial Bank (Maynardville Branch); First Century Bank (Maynardville Branch); and the Union County Trustee’s Office located in the Union County Courthouse. The cost per one pound package is $10.00. Packages available this year include halves, dark chocolate covered whole pecans, and whole white covered pecans. Proceeds from the sale of these pecans will provide eye examinations and eyeglasses for qualifying Union County residents. Please contact Ronnie Mincey (865-278-6430) for further information.
